"We're encouraged. We firmly believe that he'll participate in a significant role. Ideally starting in Perth. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."

In case of absence, ex-skipper Smith will take over the captaincy.

Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the national team for their limited-overs matches against the subcontinent side as a safety move because of an abdominal issue.

He labeled it as a "minor" injury and confirmed that he's scheduled to appear in the domestic first-class competition, so will be "well-prepared to resume bowling."

"Considerable effort has gone into building out the plan for him to take part for the initial game as an dual-role player," he elaborated.

"Originally, he'd only feature in the starting games regardless. How he handles the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, should it hinder progress for another day, we just made the decision to adopt a safer strategy."
