PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
